The Hole and undo

The hole is a safety net for things you might want back — not for everything. Purely regenerable junk (temp, cache…) Viktor deletes directly and frees the space at once; only logs, dumps and disabled startup programs go into the hole (see what Viktor cleans).

Two kinds of items (important)

The hole holds two types of things and each behaves differently:

• Files from cleanup (logs, dumps) — they sit in the hole for 7 days, then delete themselves (freeing the space). You can restore them until then, or empty right away.
• Disabled startup programs — they are a permanent, reversible record. They never delete themselves; they stay until you restore them yourself. (Otherwise, after a few days, you'd lose the ability to switch them back on without knowing about it.)

How disabling startup works

Viktor doesn't delete a startup program — it disables it the same way Task Manager does (sets a "disabled" flag). So the program stays visible in Task Manager as Disabled, it just doesn't launch at startup. Restoring it from the hole enables it again.

The Hole screen

In the app, open The Hole. You'll see a list of items and three actions:

• files show N days left, a disabled startup shows stays until you restore it.
• Restore — restores one item (a file to its place / re-enables a startup).
• Restore all — restores everything.
• Empty (free space) — permanently removes the contents of the hole. Use it when you want the freed space now. This action is irreversible (that's why Viktor asks).

Why the space isn't freed at once (for files)

As long as file items sit in the hole (on the same disk), they take up space — that's the price of being able to restore them. The space is freed when they expire (7 days) or when you empty the hole. (A disabled startup holds no space.)
